In advance of International Women’s Day, Connectech Coding are celebrating the contributions of Coral Wells, Sloane Johnson, and Angelika Wilson.

A spokesperson said, “In an industry historically dominated by men, three remarkable women at Connectech Coding are redefining the landscape of technology in Bermuda. Coral Wells, Sloane Johnson, and Angelika Wilson are not only excelling in their fields but are also committed to breaking down barriers and creating opportunities for the next generation of young women in tech.

“These women are proving that technology is not just a man’s world, it is a space for innovation, creativity, and limitless potential for anyone willing to step up and take the challenge. Through their leadership, mentorship, and passion for education, they are inspiring a new wave of young female technologists who are ready to disrupt the status quo.”

Shaping the Future Through Education and Innovation

Coral Wells, Founder and Board Chair of Connectech Coding, has been a driving force behind technology education in Bermuda. For her, the excitement of problem-solving and innovation is what drew her to technology. “The tech field is ever-changing, offering opportunities across many sectors—whether it’s coding, design, data analysis, or entrepreneurship. The possibilities to shape the future are endless, and that’s what inspired me to pursue this career path,” says Wells.

Beyond her own success, Ms Wells finds the greatest reward in seeing the young people she has mentored achieve their goals. “Watching them reach their potential, break barriers, and become successful in their chosen paths keeps me motivated to help the next generation of technologists,” she adds.

Empowering Through Digital Literacy

The spokesperson said, “As the Interim Executive Director of Connectech Coding, Sloane Johnson has dedicated her career to making technology education accessible to all. From spearheading programs that teach coding and robotics to running Bermuda’s largest Digital Leadership Conference, Sloane’s impact is felt across the island.”

“Technology is the great equalizer, and I wanted to be part of a movement that ensures every student, regardless of background, has the skills and confidence to succeed in STEM,” says Ms Johnson. She understands the challenges of representation in tech and works tirelessly to increase access to STEM education, particularly for young girls. “If a door doesn’t open, build your own. Seek mentors, take up space, and never stop learning, because the ever changing technology landscape needs you,” she encourages. Ms Johnson’s mantra, “Never dim your light,” is one she lives by and shares with the young women she mentors. She firmly believes that confidence and perseverance are key to success in STEM and beyond. “You don’t need to shrink yourself to fit into spaces that weren’t designed for you. Instead, stand tall, embrace your skills, and let your brilliance shine,” she affirms.

From Science to Software, A Passion for Coding

Angelika Wilson, a dedicated technology teacher, originally set out to become a doctor but later found her passion in computer software development. Her journey highlights the importance of following one’s curiosity and being open to change. “The most rewarding part of my job is the problem-solving process—working with people to develop a solution and then bringing it to life through coding,” Ms Wilson explains.

Despite the obstacles she has faced in proving her expertise, Ms Wilson stays committed to inspiring her students, especially her daughter and nieces. “Women belong in this field just as much as men do. My advice to young women is simple: Know your worth and set your boundaries.”

Accelerating Change for Women in Tech

The spokesperson said, “The work of these three trailblazing women is just a glimpse of the broader movement of women in Bermuda who are driving change in technology and innovation. Across industries, women are stepping into leadership roles, mentoring the next generation, and proving that technology is for everyone.”

“Never be afraid to be the only woman at the table,” Ms Wells advises. “Express your ideas, seek out mentors, and never stop learning. Surround yourself with people who believe in your potential. You have the power to achieve whatever you set your mind to.”

The spokesperson said, “Through their work at Connectech Coding, today on International Women’s Day and every day, Coral, Sloane, and Angelika are proving that the future of technology is not just diverse, it’s unstoppable.
