Video: PLP Elect Zane Desilva As Deputy Leader
[Updating] The PLP has elected Zane DeSilva as their new Deputy Leader following a meeting this evening [March 11], replacing Walter Roban who retired prior to the recent General Election. The meeting has just concluded and we will have additional information shortly.
Update 10.06pm: A PLP spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Progressive Labour Party elected Zane Desilva, a long-serving MP and Minister for Housing and Municipalities, as its Deputy Leader.”
“The PLP remains dedicated to protecting Bermudian jobs, expanding opportunities, and ensuring that our economic policies work for the many, not just the privileged few. With Zane DeSilva as Deputy Leader, we will continue our collective work to build a stronger and fairer Bermuda for all.”
Premier and Party Leader David Burt remarked, “Tonight, Delegates of the Bermuda Progressive Labour Party have spoken and selected one of our hardest working Parliamentarians as our Deputy Leader. Zane has been a steadfast supporter of the Progressive Labour Party, and his passion, loyalty, and commitment as Deputy Leader will help drive our Party forward.”
Minister Michael Weeks and Minister Diallo Rabain also ran for the Deputy Leader position, and we spoke with them briefly after the vote this evening.
Speaking tonight, the new PLP Deputy leader Zane Desilva said, “I’d like to thank everyone for their support.”
A sad and bad choice
What’s not to love about Zane?
Their all a joke. You scratch my back I’ll scratch yours!
An interesting choice. Appear not to be very popular based on the glum faces in the photos, apart from Burt and DeSilva.
LOL you guys say that about every PC the party has. Usually, it’s just because the people are focusing on what is being said. Is everyone supposed to be standing there grinning?
The one the critics fear the most is attacked starting with the OBA leader’s salvos.
Nobody is fearing.
There are concerns about government controls, transparency , accountability and trust and how any person in power deals with these areas.
the PLP spew the buzzwords , don’t deliver on them and ignore the cries for good governance.
Given the recent uncovered SAVVY information, there are greater concerns.
Lending to a friend who then lends to someone else when looking at substance over legal form is a direct loan. We need look though laws for ministers and members of parliament. Any backlash against that means someone is hiding something.

Our own Donald Trump without half the charisma.
Gives a new name too Construction
Another one to govern Bermuda. So very SAD.
We have to be the only country where we actually have a lower standard for our politicians
Visions of the last of the water swirling around the bowl before it goes glug glug glug.
What on earth has the PLP done? SMH. I am really disappointed.
Zane is a joker, but the public doesn’t care. They voted in the PLP so they deserve what they get.
Now Burt has his “Elon”.
Savvy move by the PLP. The $100k question is will he succeed Burt as leader and Premier in 18 months time?
Name a Deputy who has gone on to become Premier? Must be at least one.

Mr. Desilva is not fit to be an MP at all. His past actions are in question now. Goes back to precludes his full tenure in Govt.
He couldn’t be an MP. For another party .
Some dirt don’t wash off.
