Premier Burt Meets With FDM & OBA Leaders
Premier David Burt met with FDM Leader Marc Bean and OBA Leader Jarion Richardson, with the Premier noting that “the success of Bermuda isn’t about one party, it’s about what we can achieve together for our island home.”
A Government spokesperson said, “The Premier, the Hon. David Burt, JP, MP, has initiated discussions across Bermuda’s political spectrum to foster collaboration and unity on key issues.
“On Friday [Feb. 28], the Premier met with the leader of the Free Democratic Movement [FDM], Marc Bean to discuss areas of mutual interest. Their conversation focused on identifying opportunities to improve the lives of Bermudians through constructive cooperation.
“Both the Premier and Mr. Bean underscored the importance of finding common ground to address Bermuda’s pressing challenges.
“In the meeting, Premier Burt complimented the FDM leader for his party’s focus on the issues during the recent election campaign which is important for fostering debate.”
The Premier said, “On Friday, we took an important step forward. Not as members of different political parties, but as Bermudians, committed to the hard work of building a stronger, fairer, more united Bermuda. We may not always agree but what matters is that we find common ground where we can, push each other to be better, and never lose sight of the fact that the challenges we face belong to all of us. At the end of the day, the success of Bermuda isn’t about one party, it’s about what we can achieve together for our island home.”
A Government spokesperson added, “Premier Burt also met with One Bermuda Alliance [OBA] leader Jarion Richardson to review the dates for the Convening of the Legislature and the 2025/26 Budget. This meeting underscored the government’s approach to ensuring an inclusive dialogue on governance.”
The Premier said, “In my meeting with Opposition leader Jarion Richardson, we spoke about the need for the Legislature to be more active in its oversight role, not just during House sessions, but through its committees.
“This was a recommendation from the SAGE Commission and a commitment in our 2017 platform. We made the necessary changes in 2018 to ensure these committees could be appointed. Yet, after finally being formed in 2024, they still haven’t met. That must change.”
Premier Burt concluded, “Accountability is a shared responsibility, and we must ensure the mechanisms for oversight are not just in place, but actually used. That’s why we both agreed on the need to ensure these committees fulfil their role.”
A Government spokesperson added, “These engagements, the first of several planned meetings across Bermuda’s political landscape, highlight the Government’s commitment to fostering a cooperative approach to governance for the benefit of all Bermudians.”

Did anyone ask what the “for us” referred to in the PLP election slogan?
In power for all except 4 years since 1998 and now asking for help. Shows they have no clue how to fix the problems they have created.
Did anyone ask the obaubperrs when they’re going to have a fire sale since they keep losing elections?
You should be far more worried about the economic dumpster fire created by the PLP which they don’t know how to control, let alone put out.
They can’t have any type of sale when this group is at rock bottom.

The FDM and the OBA are not the ruling party they are the combiled opposition, you are not an” escape goat”.

Best thing you can do “premier” is quit and go back to America.
No we are thinking . So as a result, give us an update in 3 months time of progress. Great that FDM and OBA came.
Very commendable to all involved! But one must always remember who “They” are who Bob Marley spoke about in the song ” Top Ranking”!
Back to business as usual for Burt an Co. Photo ops and sound bites. It is all a never ending PR campaign for the benefit of the easily fooled. It works, though not nearly as well as in the past.
Barely half of the popular vote is telling.
Don’t expect anything out of this cosey little get together. The FDM is history. The independents did better than the FDM. Burt and the PLP don’t care what the OBA thinks, even though proportionally they deserve almost half of the HOA seats given their percentage of votes.
At 11 seats the OBA is in a much better postion to make the PLP accountable. They have picked up some very smart and vocal people. Let’s hear them.
This is a good sign and I hope that all parties are at the table with honesty and integrity.
However questioned the fact all party’s were willing and able to commit to this meeting shows progress.
Bermuda it is time to reconcile petty differences and unite as a people agin to preserve protect and invest in our future prosperity.

That has been the case for more than 30 years, but the politics of hate still works in Bermuda.
Every one will facing years of hardship as we are counting our losses .
You may have won the election but lost the trust.
Do not make promices to the tax payers of what you are going to do.
The talking is over, we have had enough arrogance .

The OBA would be utterly dismayed and defeated if Burt and Bean were able to work together.

SAGE report!! That report was over 10+ years ago. Burt is just looking to implement suggestion from the report. Wasn’t he the main one protesting against any and/all changes initially when suggested by previous administrations?
