St. Baldrick’s Fundraiser Set For March 14
The St. Baldrick’s Foundation will host a head-shaving fundraiser at Docksider’s on March 14, 2025, with participants raising money for childhood cancer research.
A spokesperson said, “The St. Baldrick’s Foundation, the largest charity funder of children’s cancer research grants, will host one of its signature head-shaving events at Docksider’s on March 14, 2025 where more than 18 participants will shave their heads to raise money for lifesaving childhood cancer research.
“Every 2 minutes, a child somewhere in the world is diagnosed with cancer. In the U.S., 1 in 5 will not survive. The St. Baldrick’s Foundation, the largest charity funder of childhood cancer research grants, has awarded more than $352 million to researchers to Conquer Kids’ Cancer. When you give to St. Baldrick’s, you don’t just give to one hospital – you support every institution with the expertise to treat kids with cancer across the U.S. St. Baldrick’s ensures that children fighting cancer now — and those diagnosed in the future — will have access to the most cutting-edge treatment, by supporting every stage of research, from new ideas in the lab to the training of the next generation of researchers, to lifesaving clinical trials.”
Among those braving the shave is repeat participant Gregory Focke. When asked why he decided to get involved with St. Baldrick’s and his hopes for the cause, Mr Focke shared, “In 2018, I was diagnosed with a brain tumor. This experience led me to join St. Baldrick’s in 2020, thanks to a friend’s invitation. Since then, I’ve proudly “braved the shave” every year. My goal is to raise both awareness and funds to support children battling cancer.”
The spokesperson said, “If you are thinking about braving the shave, there is still time to register! You can make an impact for kids with cancer by participating in a head-shaving event and raising money that will go toward lifesaving research. To register or donate, please visit our 24th Annual Bermuda Event page.
“Whether you are shaving or not, please join us next Friday to support our event and cheer on our participants. We would love to have you there!
“Thanks to fundraising events around the world, St. Baldricks has granted more than $340M since 2005. This empowers scientists around the world. Currently there are 383 research institutions in over 30 countries working on cures financed by 1,803 St. Baldricks grants. St. Baldrick’s has played a role in virtually every advancement in the field over the past 25 years and remains essential in advancing progress and fostering innovation in childhood cancer research.
“Additionally, part of the proceeds raised from events in Bermuda are used by Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre to fund the SunSmart Programme. The SunSmart Programme is a school and summer camp based programme which aims to increase the awareness of our youth about the importance of practicing sun safe behaviours while outdoors.
