Krista Dyer ‘Ecstatic’ With Silver Medal

Krista Dyer said she is “ecstatic” after claiming a silver medal at the IWUF Tenth Sanda World Cup in Jiangyin, China, yesterday [April 9].

Dyer, who represents the Bermuda Sanshou Association [BSA], won her second round-robin bout in the women’s 65kg division, earning a points victory over Australian Nicole Lowe-Tarbet.

“I’m super-ecstatic to come away with a silver medal,” Dyer told Bernews.

“The competition was super deep, and I was honoured to be among the best in the world.

“Although she was up in the match at one point during the first round, I refused to let that get to me and tried to even the score.

“She backed off with her speed and frequency of attacks in the second round. I was able to hit and move and score points.”

The Bermuda Sanshou Association [BSA] captain earned her place at the World Cup after a silver-medal finish at the World Wushu Championships in Fort Worth, Texas, in November 2023.

Dyer will compete at the World Games in Chengdu, China, in August and the World Wushu Championships in Brasilia, Brazil, in September.

Garon Wilkinson, BSA president and Dyer’s coach at the World Cup, praised her performance but emphasised the challenges to come.

“We have a big year ahead,” he said. “Krista will be fighting at 70kg at the World Games, a class above her normal weight, and we will rely on her conditioning and superior cardio to gain an advantage over the heavier girls.”
