Bermuda College Graduation Set For May 15
Hundreds of students will mark a major milestone as Bermuda College prepares to celebrate its commencement ceremony on Thursday, May 15.
A spokesperson said, “Hundreds of students – young and old – are set to celebrate educational success when Bermuda College hosts its commencement ceremony.
“Next month students studying at Bermuda College as well as those studying at the Athora Division of Professional and Career Education [APACE] will gather to receive their graduation awards.”
Bermuda College President, Dr. David Sam, who will be attending his first commencement ceremony, said: “This is one of the biggest days for the College as it recognises the achievements of the students.
“It is a day to celebrate, as many of these young men and women will now go on to further their education through the many partnerships we have with overseas institutions, ready to one day return to Bermuda wiser and better people.”
The spokesperson said, “During the day, College students will gather on the sports field with their friends and family to receive their awards.”
Dr. Sam, who assumed his post last August, added: “My message to the students will be, ‘don’t stop now, pursue your dreams, be the best person you want to be’.
“For some of the students, this has been their goal for many years, and they have worked very hard, taking care of families, working to make ends meet, and finally they have arrived at their goal.”
The spokesperson said, “As most of the APACE students are working, the ceremony marking their achievements will be held later in the day.”
“We will be celebrating more than 100 students in 20-plus subject areas,” said Tawana Flood, the Director of the Division of APACE.
She added: “Many of these students have worked during the day and then studied in the evenings and should be commended for their determination to succeed and better themselves.”
The spokesperson said, “The College, which recently held a Gala at the Hamilton Princess & Beach Club to celebrate its 50th anniversary, has established almost 40 agreements and partnerships with accredited colleges and universities in Canada, the United Kingdom, the United States of America, and the West Indies/Caribbean Islands, creating transfer pathways for Bermudian students to further their studies abroad.
“Under the partnerships, students can transfer credits from the College’s associate degree programmes to study two additional years at an institution abroad to complete their Bachelor’s Degree.
“The commencement ceremony will be held on May 15.”
