Middle School Girls Badminton Results
Somersfield Academy dominated the Middle School Girls Badminton Tournament on their home court.
A spokesperson said, “Somersfield Academy swept the podium in the under 13 singles division of the middle school girls badminton tournament which was held on their home court. Emma Tothong led the way for Somersfield Academy after defeating teammate kate Pursell 15-11 in the final. Aniah Tucker ensured Somersfield would fill the podium after coming from behind to defeat Warwick Academy’s Devi Samuels in the third place match. Tothong defeated Tucker 15-8 in the semi finals while Pursell defeated Samuels 15-13 in the other semi final. In the first round of the playoffs Tothong got past Zara Bule from Saltus 15-2 with Pursell defeating Warwick’s Anabelle Shah 15-6. Samuels defeated teammate Emma Raposo 15-5 and Tucker beat Warwick’s Sagely O’Flynn 15-6.
“Somersfield’s Aniah Tucker and Kate Pusell teamed up to win the doubles competition after defeated Warwick’s Annabelle Shah and Devi Samuels 15-11 in the final. Emma Tothong joined Anna Green to finish third over Saltus’ Amaris Nusum and Zara Bule with a 15-3 win in the bronze medal match. The Tucker/Pursell duo defeated their Somersfield counterparts of Tothong and Green in the semi final 15-7. The Warwick pair of Shah and Samuels overcame Nusum and Bule 15-9 to reach the final.
“Somersfield Academy continued their winning ways with Sienna Harper claiming the Over 13 singles title after overcoming Warwick Academy’s Sophie McClure 15-9 in the final. Leilani Carpol would claim bronze for Somersfield Academy after defeating McKenna Kyme from Saltus 15-7 in the third place match. Harper got past Kyme in the semi final while McClure defeated Carpol 15-5 in the other semi final. McClure defeated teammate Lilian Collette 15-7 in the first round of the playoffs while Kyme overcome Warwick’s Bailey Evans in the other playoff match 15-10.
“Warwick Academy won the over 13 doubles tournament with Lilian Collette and Sophie McClure teaming up to win the round robin tournament with a perfect 5-0 record. Somersfield Academy’s Sienna Harper and Leilani Carpol finished second with a 4-1 record. Sandys Secondary Middle School students Priya Dill and Rhe’O Simmons claimed bronze with a 3-2 record.”
