Bermuda Tennis Team Defeats Jamaica 2-1
The Bermuda tennis team made an outstanding showing to defeat Jamaica 2-1 in their Americas Group III Promotion Play-off Final in Costa Rica.
The match determined the promotion spot between the two nations.
Bermuda took an initial lead. Daniel Phillips defeated Jon Chin in the opening singles rubber, 6-3, 7-5, giving Bermuda a 1-0 advantage.
Jamaica then leveled the match. Blaise Bicknell defeated Bermuda’s Trey Mallory in the second singles rubber, 7-5, 6-4, bringing the tie score to 1-1. This led to a decisive doubles rubber.
Phillips and Mallory then represented Bermuda against the Jamaican duo of Chin and Bicknell. The Bermudian pair secured a 6-3, 6-2 victory.
This 2-1 win for Bermuda marks a significant achievement for Bermudian tennis, moving the team to Americas Group II for the next Davis Cup cycle.
