National Heroes Holiday Weekend Policing
As Bermuda gears up for the 2025 National Heroes’ Day holiday and Carnival festivities, the Bermuda Police Service will maintain a strong island-wide presence to support public safety and responsible celebration.
A police spokesperson said, “As the National Heroes’ Day 2025 holiday weekend approaches, culminating in the much-anticipated Carnival in Bermuda events, the Bermuda Police Service [BPS] will maintain a high-visibility presence across the island to ensure public safety and the enjoyment of all attendees.
“Residents and visitors are encouraged to celebrate responsibly.
“BPS officers will be deployed across all major carnival events and related social gatherings, with a continued focus on ensuring safety and preventing crime.
“The public is reminded that any involvement in criminal or antisocial behaviour will be met with firm and proportionate enforcement.”
“Our aim is to strike the right balance between enabling the community to enjoy the holiday and safeguarding everyone’s welfare,” said Detective Superintendent Dennis Astwood, Gold Commander for the policing operation. “We ask for the public’s cooperation so that Carnival and National Heroes’ Day can be celebrated safely and without incident.”
Safety Guidance for Eventgoers:
A police spokesperson added, “The BPS offers the following safety tips for individuals planning to attend events over the long weekend:
- Travel in groups or pairs whenever possible.
- Park in well-lit, populated areas and avoid obstructing roads or private driveways.
- Inform a trusted person of your plans and expected return time.
- Cooperate with police officers to ensure smooth operations and a positive event experience.
Traffic Enforcement and Road Safety:
“Motorists can expect enhanced traffic enforcement throughout the weekend, particularly targeting impaired driving. Roadside Sobriety Checkpoints will be in operation at strategic locations across the island.
“The Bermuda Police Service extends its best wishes to all residents and visitors. We urge everyone to act responsibly, look out for one another, and contribute to a safe and enjoyable National Heroes’ Day holiday weekend.”
