“The People’s Independent Coalition” Forms
[Updated] A statement issued said that independent candidates “have heard the people’s call for change, unity, and accountable leadership” and “stand together as a cohesive movement under the banner ‘The People’s Independent Coalition.”
The statement said, “The independent candidates of Bermuda have heard the people’s call for change, unity, and accountable leadership. Today, we stand together as a cohesive movement. Under the banner “The People’s Independent Coalition [PIC] – Independent Voices. United Vision.”, we pledge to work collectively for a Bermuda that puts people before politics.
“Though the 2025 General Election did not result in independent representation in Parliament, the record-breaking number of candidates and the overwhelming support from voters have proven one thing: Bermuda is ready for a new way forward.
“We recognize that the strength of independent leadership lies in collaboration, not division. Moving forward, we pledge to:
“Work Collectively: Despite being independents, we will align on key issues affecting Bermudians—cost of living, healthcare, education, and economic fairness—to amplify our impact.
“Hold Government Accountable: Even without seats, we will monitor policy decisions, demand transparency, and ensure the people’s voices are heard.
“Prepare for the Future: We will refine our strategies, engage deeper with communities, and build a stronger foundation for the next election.
Why This Matters Now More Than Ever
“The two-party system has left many Bermudians feeling unheard. The rise of independent candidates was not a protest—it was a demand for representation without partisan barriers.
“We remain steadfast in our belief that Bermuda deserves leaders who:
- Listen first, act second
- Put country over party
- Fight for fairness, not favoritism
PIC Your Future: The Path Ahead
“PIC is more than a slogan—it’s a promise. We will continue engaging with voters, hosting town halls, and advocating for policies that reflect Bermuda’s true needs.
“To every Bermudian who supported change: Thank you. This movement belongs to you—and together, we will keep pushing for a government that works for all of Bermuda.”
Update 7.53pm: A PLP spokesperson said, “The Progressive Labour Party welcomes all who engage in Bermuda’s democratic process, including those who are part of Bermuda’s newest political party, the People’s Independent Coalition.
“Before and since the election, we have been working towards a fairer Bermuda for all, while others simply disappeared. We know that true change doesn’t come from just words but from consistent, engaged work in our community. We know that true change doesn’t come from press releases and highly funded media campaigns. We also know that true change comes when we are true to who we are and what we believe.
“That’s why the PLP has never had to rebrand, rename or relaunch, while others continue to contort themselves into new entities and run from who they are.
“With a shared platform, joint press events, and coordinated messaging, Bermudians saw through the “independents,” knew what they really were and on election day across 36 constituencies refused to buy it. Bermudians should be gratified that PIC has taken a closer step towards being honest about what it has always been behind the scenes: a political party.
“Now that they have finally declared what everyone in Bermuda already knew they were, the PLP hopes for support in areas of agreement and constructive debate on issues where our parties may disagree.
“Whatever new political alignments may happen in the future, Bermudians can be comforted that the PLP will continue reducing the burden of taxation on workers, providing more affordable housing, and building a fairer Bermuda where everyone can benefit from our island’s prosperity.”

Always great to see more participation in politics. I have three problems with this, though. 1) This statement is AI generated. It is obvious and mutiple AI detectors confirm it. We must demand critical thinking and basic literacy/writing abilities from people who want to be in parliment. 2) Where exactly do you draw the line from being a group of independents and simply a new party? 3) How will you prevent splitting the vote in the future. The PLP would not have won if independents weren’t running. If your priority is change, this is irresponsible and frankly foolish.
ah, the good ol’ em dash!
What’s wrong with using ChatGPT as an editor?
It’s perfectly capable of proofreading any original ideas that are given to it.
I certainly use it that way sometimes myself.
Internet posts that ought to be interesting read like polyester pablum for the brain.
” PLP would not have won if independents weren’t running.”
Now that’s a wild statement. You seriously believe that the OBA would have picked up every single vote that would otherwise have gone to an independent, and then win 18+ seats?
Good news , keep moving forward and now you all have plenty of time to be prepared for the next election .
Call it what you like,it’s just another political party!
A good move. A group who can agree to disagree and respect those disagreements while deling with each issue independently.
Political maturity. Something that has been missing in Bermuda for many many years. A group that is not a herd of sheep.
Ai generated? Yes. I thought the same 2. They are otherwise of to a good at the end of the year I truly hope they get a good report card with no own goals but a long list if accomplishments beyond the usual…we served free soup and gave a2ay free clothes. Let’s hear how they tackled:
. The proliferation of all of these signs advertising events jow even posted on bust stop and in Somerset over the religious words on the walk of Firt Scaur.
. The plight of black males…rarely see in adverts oral the top of tge Clas
. Can the head of gun violence get that salary and also one as a MP?
. If the cost of eggs has r8sen…have they printed or shown folks or set up a small at home chicken far. While all can’t do it, some can.
. Just two more. There are about 10 areas where black men sit all day and talk. Have they talked and assisted any in getting and keeping a job?
. Last but not least we hear lots of talk about the cost of groceries but not one word about the cost of new cars or these $150 – $185 ” concerts being held.
We will await their report card.
I knew it! Especially when Sir. John Swan kept showing up at every independent interview/press conference.
Well, let’s see what they can do. If they can avoid the infiltration of snakes I’ll be surprised.
It is hard to imagine a more stupid or more dangerous way of making decisions than by putting those decisions in the hands of people who pay no price for being wrong. – Thomas Sowell
As long as you don’t use surrogates to gain more votes, like the previous UBP and current OBA party, you will be okay.
Maybe you should have used a marketing firm to come up with your party’s name. Or someone familiar with the English language and the meaning of words. Because you might intend to sound open-minded with your party’s choice of name but it’s really just a silly contradiction of terms. The moment a group of ‘independents’ form a coalition, they cease to be independent simply due to the meaning of those words. I admire you wanting to serve the people of Bermuda but you’ve got an uphill battle to convince people you should be the next government if you can’t even demonstrate you have an understanding of simple logic.
