Update 3pm: Acting Commissioner of Police Antoine Daniels’ remarks:

Good afternoon, members of the media,

Before Acting Superintendent Jason Smith provides an investigative update on yesterday afternoon’s tragic firearms incident, I wish to offer a few words.

First and foremost, I extend my sincere condolences to the families and loved ones of:

  • 18-year-old Nakai Robinson, and
  • 23-year-old Natrae Eversley

Both young men were senselessly shot and killed around 4:40 PM yesterday, while on Court Street near the junction with Dundonald Street in the City of Hamilton.

A third man, aged 24, also sustained a gunshot wound. Fortunately, he is expected to make a full recovery.

This marks the fourth murder of 2025 involving a firearm, and the 21st firearm-related murder since January 2020.

These were two young men—callously gunned down in the prime of their lives—as they spent time in a community space. Their tragic deaths have left many family members, friends, and neighbours grieving.

Bermuda is currently facing a deeply troubling period, having experienced four sudden deaths in the past week alone. This wave of violence is especially concerning, as it comes at a time when our island should be drawing together, not pulling apart.

In keeping with our mission of Making Bermuda Safer, the Bermuda Police Service has developed an operational response plan, centred around three key priorities:

  1. Targeting individuals most likely to commit violent acts,
  2. Conduct a quality focused investigation to identify and apprehend the shooter in this matter while
  3. Providing community reassurance through highly visible policing.

We are aware that some in the community may feel that police actions are too often reactive rather than proactive. While no police service can be everywhere at all times, I want to assure the public that the BPS has placed a strong focus on deploying officers in areas where the highest risk/threat is likely to be

In recent years, our proactive efforts have yielded significant results, including the seizure of 17 operational firearms since January 2023—10 of those last year alone, and 2 so far this year.

We remain committed to identifying and dismantling the criminal groups responsible for this violence. But this is not a task the police can accomplish alone.

It is everyone’s responsibility to help make Bermuda a safer place to live, work, and visit.

To believe that this kind of violence cannot or will not touch you or your loved ones is a risky stance—especially on an island of our size, where a single shooting can devastate entire families, businesses, and neighbourhoods.

Before I hand over to Acting Superintendent Smith, I take this opportunity to thank all of those persons who have already come forward. Your courage is vital to these investigations.

However, I cannot stress enough: If you know something—no matter how small or insignificant it may seem—please come forward and speak with us. Your information could make all the difference.

Thank you.
