Photos & Video: Mom Bermuda Host Motorcade

[Updated with photos & video] A motorcade will take place today [August 16] for the sixth consecutive year to honour those who have lost their lives to violence in the community.

The event is organised by Mom Bermuda — a group of women directly affected by violence and “dedicated to bringing peace within the community.”

The procession will begin and end at CedarBridge Academy, starting at 10am.

Vehicle decoration begins at 9am, with the route travelling through South Shore, Dockyard, Court Street, Black Watch Pass, North Shore, and St George’s.

Nicole Fox co-founded Mom Bermuda in 2020 with Marilyn Outerbridge — who has since passed away — after both lost their sons to violence in 2013.

“There was no Cup Match n 2020 – and I said, ‘Let’s honour our loved ones.’ We’ve been doing it ever since,” Ms Fox told Bernews.

“We want to raise awareness that this is still happening. We also want to let other people know – especially those still mourning years later – that they’re not alone.”

Ms Fox, whose son Ricco Furbert and stepson Clark Fox lost their lives to violence, said she hopes the island comes out to support the event.

“No one wants to join Mom Bermuda, but unfortunately, we do exist,” said Ms Fox, whose co-chair is Iesha Rogers.

“We want to feel supported, and we want our community to stand with us as we continue to navigate the violence in our community.

“We support each other, but it would be nice to know our island supports us too.

“Each year we seem to add more people to our list.”

She added: “We don’t want to forget the perpetrators’ parents — they’re mothers too. They are very much included. They can also be part of this movement motorcade.

“I don’t want them to feel it’s not for them. They have also lost sons — to prison.”
