A statement from the Bermuda Maritime Operation Centers which appears to correlate with this incident, said, “Landline call from Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service Dispatch regarding a reported boat fire following a lightning strike. Reporting source indicates position as Queens Cove, Fairylands and BFRS requests marine transport for attending fire crew in order to access the vessel.

“RCC contacts RBR-Coastguard for assistance although heavy passing thunderstorm currently mid-island is expected to delay their arrival on scene. Arriving in the area at 10:55am, Rescue 1 reports that the 31 foot JC fishing boat is fully engulfed and is actually in Fairylands Creek, not Mills Creek and that a marine contractor undertaking mooring work in the Creek has assisted fire fighters with getting out to the boat.

“By 11:10am Rescue 1 confirms that the fire is out and that they are presently assessing the area for pollution impacts, but so far nil observed. Vessel is heavily damaged but still afloat and will be removed from the water in due course.
