Malika Cartwright, Director of the Department of Workforce Development, stressed that student success is key to Bermuda’s future stability and resilience, saying, “The Department of Workforce Development is proud to provide opportunities that support the academic and professional growth of Bermudians. These scholarships represent an investment in our island’s future, ensuring that our students are prepared to meet the demands of a rapidly evolving workforce. Each recipient has demonstrated excellence and determination, and we look forward to the positive impact they will make.”

How strange! With the racial mix of Bermuda’s population generally thought to be 65% black and 35% white, not one white student was considered worthy of a scholarship? Remember, theses are scholarships, not bursaries, so should be awarded to students showing academic excellence, good character and contributions to the community.
Your point? Our black Bermudians are deserving. The whites have money..n they have the ability to apply just like everyone else…this is called Bermudian Black Exellence!
“The whites have money”
There it is.
If these were bursaries you would have a point. However scholarships are not awarded, like bursaries, based on financial need. My point is the PLP government is pandering to only one section of our community which is discriminatory. As an aside, not all whites ‘have the money’.
They only see one ‘type’ of people as being truly Bdian. They always have and always will.
Do you ever get that same funny feeling knowing the OBA is basically a white political party putting forward mostly black candidates? Talk about an unexpected plot twist!
