The 2025 Kata Classic, hosted by Shotocup at Whitney Institute, showcased Bermuda’s martial arts talent with standout performances from national team members, rising stars, and newcomers as the Coral Cup season got underway.
A spokesperson said, “The 2025 Kata Classic, hosted by Shotocup at the Whitney Institute, concluded with powerful performances, spirited competition, and a celebration of Bermuda’s martial arts excellence. Athletes from across the island came together for a day dedicated solely to kata and kobudo, further cementing the event as a highlight of the Coral Cup season.
“Among the day’s top performers was national team member Zoe Talbot, who delivered an outstanding performance in the Under 15 Intermediate Female Kata division. Zoe secured gold with sharp technique, fluid transitions, and high-level composure. She went on to win the Under 15 Intermediate Kata Combine, proving why she remains one of Bermuda’s most promising young karatekas.”
“Zoe continues to raise the bar each time she steps on the tatami,” said a Shotocup spokesperson. “Her commitment and consistency make her an incredible role model for the next generation of karateka in Bermuda.”
A spokesperson added, “Highlights from the 2025 Kata Classic:
- “Tony Cabral and Talia Fox retained their dominance, each winning their respective advanced divisions and sweeping the Advanced Kata and Advanced Kobudo combined categories.
- “Amarriah Vaughans, another top youth competitor, captured gold in both the Under 15 Advanced Female Kata and Youth Advanced Kata Combine, showing her continued growth on the tournament circuit.
- “Rising athletes such as Ethan White, Inara Todd, and Zecori Talbot also stood out in their divisions, delivering poised and precise kata performances.
- “Newcomers including Isabella Lindsay, Trevor Lindsay, and Jamarkis White took home gold in the novice categories, reflecting the strength of Bermuda’s dojo pipeline.
“The Kata Classic marks a strong start to the 2025/2026 Coral Cup season, with competitors accumulating points toward overall athlete rankings.
