The ‘Rally for Southlands’ demonstration was held today [Sept 6] at Southlands to show support for preserving the area.
A statement from the organizers previously said, “Southlands National Park Reserve — affectionately known as “The Green Lung of Bermuda” — is a vital sanctuary of biodiversity, providing a haven for wildlife and a beloved escape for both residents and visitors. However, ongoing and proposed developments along its southern coast and northern woodlands are now threatening the park’s ecological integrity.
“Bermuda remains one of the most densely developed islands in the Atlantic. As green spaces disappear, many fear that Southlands could become the next casualty.
“The petition calls on the Bermuda Government to immediately halt all development within Southlands and to take action to designate the area as a protected Nature Reserve. This, organizers say, is not just an environmental issue — it’s a moral responsibility to future generations.”

Over 550 objections on the government website forum.gov.bm
Over 350 attended the rally to “Save Southlands” including MP’s from both political parties.
The people have spoke overwhelmingly.
Will the government listen?
Great job organising…thank you. LISTEN PLEASE GOVERNMENT. NO ONE WANTS ANY MORE DEVELOPEMNT IN THIS AREA> There is literally a restaurant 50 yards up the road, an empty grocery store with an empty parking lot and an empty gas station and parking lot 100 yards up the road…..right around the corner – OMG and you want to build another parking lot?????? Find a way to use what is already there! and WHERE are you ziplining? like a 1 minute ride that will likely cost $50 a ride? You know you WILL have to cut trees down for that right??? PLEASE no more developing…..it does nothing for the property value in the area…and it is NOT NEEDED. Use your clever minds and figure out a way to utilise what is already there, sitting, unused, and depreciating our property values every day.
Can someone remind me when the last time to gov listened to a petition? Or even the people?
