Rodrigues, Vieira & Eckerd Team Finish 13th
Bermudian sailors Paul Rodrigues Jr. and Jordan Vieira helped their Eckerd College Tritons sailing team to a 13th-place finish at the Open Atlantic Coast Championship [ACC] Round 1A. The result in Connecticut was just enough to qualify them for the main ACC Tournament.
The two-day regatta faced temperamental weather, limiting the number of races. On the first day, races were postponed before six were completed. Conditions worsened in the afternoon, with winds dropping to 4-5 knots, allowing for only one more race in each division before racing was called off.
The Tritons’ A Division was crewed by Rodrigues Jr. and Avery Guck, while the B Division featured Vieira and Tia Soultankakis.
The second day was affected by weather, with the fleet returning to shore after the breeze fell below the minimum requirement. Racing was officially called off in the afternoon, leaving the final results based on the seven races from the first day.
Eckerd finished with a total of 169 points. The A Division finished 15th with 87 points, and the B Division placed 14th with 82 points. Despite finishing in the lower half of the fleet, their 13th-place overall standing out of 18 teams secured their spot in the main Open Atlantic Coast Tournament.
