Somersfield Academy is getting set to hold an October language camp for students aged 10-14 from October 20 to October 24.

A spokesperson said, “Somersfield Academy is proud to announce the launch of its new French Camp, part of the school’s growing camps programme. The immersive camp experience has been designed and led by Somersfield’s International Baccalaureate [IB] Language Acquisition teacher, Julie Kulig, who brings her native French expertise and passion for global learning to the programme.

“Drawing on her experience as an IB educator, Kulig has developed a curriculum that makes French language learning interactive, creative, and culturally rich. Campers will explore French through engaging activities such as art, music, games, storytelling, and culinary projects, all designed to help students develop confidence and authentic communication skills in a fun, supportive environment.”

Ms. Kulig said, “Our French Camp encourages students to experience language in action. By combining creativity and culture, we help learners discover that language is not just about words, it’s about connection, curiosity, and joy.

“With such a strong French-speaking family base at Somersfield, and as the host location for the Alliance Française French Club on Saturdays, this camp is a natural extension of our commitment to culture and language learning. We know that learning another language enhances creativity, empathy, and global awareness — values that are at the heart of Somersfield’s mission.”

Kelly Rodday, Somersfield’s new Camp Coordinator, said, “Julie’s passion and expertise have brought this camp to life,” said Rodday. “This French Camp is just one part of a wider plan to offer an incredible auxiliary camp experience for our parents and to share Somersfield’s values with the wider community. The French Camp offers the perfect safe space for 10-14 year olds who have aged out of traditional camps on the island. This provides a structured, and enriching space for them to learn something new, make friends, and have fun.”

The spokesperson said, “Open to students of all proficiency levels, the French Camp will run from October 20–25, 2025 at Somersfield Academy, offering both half-day and full-day options. Spaces are limited, and early registration is encouraged.
