CURB & OUTBermuda Raise Concerns

November 12, 2025 | 22 Comments

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis Bermuda Nov 12 2025CURB and OUTBermuda said they “express deep concern about the decision to platform Florida Governor Ron DeSantis” at an upcoming Insurance Summit in Bermuda.

A spokesperson said, “As organizations committed to equity, justice, and belonging, Citizens Uprooting Racism in Bermuda [CURB] and OUTBermuda express deep concern about the decision to platform Florida Governor Ron DeSantis at the upcoming PwC Insurance Summit in Bermuda.

“While we understand that Governor DeSantis has been invited to speak on matters of insurance and governance, his broader record cannot be separated from his presence. He has championed and enacted laws and policies that target LGBTQ+ people, restrict access to gender-affirming healthcare, silence educators, and punish diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts. His actions have also undermined racial equity and censored teaching and dialogue about systemic racism and historical injustice.

“To give such a voice a platform in Bermuda—a country still healing from its own history of racial inequality and striving to create a more inclusive future—undermines the values of justice, compassion, and equality that many in our community and corporate sector hold dear.

“True allyship means more than sponsorship or symbolic gestures. Leadership in every sector carries a responsibility to act with care for the wider community. Corporate and community leaders must ensure that the voices they elevate reflect a commitment to dignity, equality, and respect for all people.

“Looking ahead, we encourage event organizers and corporate leaders to make choices that reflect Bermuda’s shared values of fairness, compassion, and belonging, and to use their platforms to uplift those who advance those principles in word and action.

“Bermuda — a country still healing from its own history of racial inequality and striving to create a more inclusive future—undermines the values of justice, compassion, and equality that many in our community and corporate sector hold dear.”

Can CURB explain why they seemingly pacify our own government actively going against creating “a more inclusive future” by repealing same sex marriage in Bermuda, where they we’re completely silent on the matter?

I can understand not liking DeSantis’ political leanings for one reason or another but that blatant hypocrisy is just insulting to the public’s collective intelligence.

    • Ms. Empathy says:

CURB is Citizens Uprooting Racism in Bermuda… not sure why you’re expecting them to be vocal on same-sex marriage.

      • Mr. Apathy says:

Last I checked, people can face discrimination on both racial and sexual grounds simultaneously. Surely that’s something you’d expect CURB to speak out against?

Silly me, of course not, because CURB’s sole purpose is to focus exclusively on racism, completely ignoring any other issues that might be tangentially related or connected to it in any way, apparently.

    • Ah says:

Govts are frequently told they don’t lister to the community. The PLP were told by lots of people to turn it back. They did what the majority requested. Surely you can accept that?

      • Mr. Apathy says:

Great analysis, if you’re being sarcastic.

If not, I’m not entirely convinced a very vocal group within the party’s supporter base is necessarily equal to the “majority”.

I can accept that the PLP did what they were told by a vocal group. That doesn’t, however, mean that I endorse them having done so, nor that it was the right thing to do.

      • Question says:

This is a private event, and if you don’t like the speaker, don’t attend.

I don’t particularly like Trevor Noah. I think he’s a nasty jerk. But I didn’t whine about it when he spoke at an event here a couple of years ago.

    • To be fair says:

      Sir,

A review of Bernews will provide confirmation that OUT Bermuda has been at the forefront of the litigation regarding same sex marriage.

I offer to you a link to just one instance of a news report published in Bernews that highlights OUT Bermuda’s involvement.

      https://bernews.com/2018/05/same-sex-marriage-legal-challenge-to-begin/

Your accusation of hypocrisy and silence is not a valid charge against OUT Bermuda.

      • Mr. Apathy says:

        Sir/Madame,

You’d benefit from reading more carefully.

I specifically refer to CURB in my comments and not OUTBermuda.

      • Truth says:

He’s talking about CURB, try to pay attention.

  2. Question says:

If we’re going to restrict who can and cannot have free speech, then let’s apply it equally and stop extreme left wing activists from visiting as well.

  3. Lion Paw says:

As a resident of Florida prior to him becoming Govern I can attest this is a very hateful person hell bent on turning back the hands of time. He should not be welcomed anywhere that is progressive
He is a divisive and bigoted human

  4. Hilarious says:

So, no diversity of opinions that do not mirror yours – got it.

  5. Foggo says:

[corrected] If you don’t want the ‘Right’ to speak, then the ‘Left’ shouldn’t speak either!!

  6. Jah says:

I am a black Bermudian. CURB nor OUTBermuda speak on my behalf nor on behalf of this country. I welcome Ron DeSantis to our shores and I hope to be in attendance.

  7. Vera Pax says:

    Let’s be honest:
Race and LGBTQ ideology are not the same issue.

Bermuda’s history of racial injustice is real. It deserves truth, healing, and respect.
But using that history to defend gender ideology and silence dissent? That’s manipulation.

You can’t hijack the pain of one group to push the agenda of another.
    That’s not justice. That’s strategy.

    We stand for truth.
    We stand for children.
    We stand for parents.
And we refuse to be shamed into silence.

    • Truth says:

You make too many bigoted assumptions to be taken seriously.
You’re no better than the people you hate.

    • Joe Bloggs says:

Another view might be that prejudice is prejudice and it does not matter whether the prejudice is against skin colour, gender or sexual orientation (or one or more of those conditions).
