Premier Burt Attends Chainlink SmartCon

Recently, the Premier and Minister of Finance of Bermuda David Burt attended Chainlink’s SmartCon 2025, a leading global conference on blockchain infrastructure, capital markets, and digital finance.

A Government spokesperson said, “The event which took place in New York, provided an opportunity for the Government of Bermuda to deepen its engagement with global financial and technology leaders, strengthen Bermuda’s position as a hub for regulated digital innovation, and attract investment to the island’s growing digital finance ecosystem.

“Throughout the conference, Premier Burt met with executives from New York Life Insurance, Chubb Insurance, Euroclear, Bank of New York, Apex Group, OpenExO, Coinfund, and the Global Blockchain Business Council among other institutional leaders and infrastructure providers in blockchain and capital markets. He also spoke on a fireside panel on the topic of Bermuda’s leadership in digital finance.”

The Premier said, “Bermuda continues to demonstrate that innovation and sound regulation can coexist. SmartCon brought together the world’s most advanced thinkers in finance and technology, and our participation ensures that Bermuda remains part of that global conversation.”

He continued, “We are pursuing opportunities that will make payments faster, cheaper, and more inclusive for Bermudians while attracting high-quality investment and jobs to our economy. Bermuda’s Digital Asset Business Act [DABA] remains one of the most respected frameworks globally, and we will continue to promote it as the foundation for responsible growth in digital finance.”

A Government spokesperson added, “A primary goal of the visit was to engage with U.S. and international digital asset businesses that are prospective applicants under DABA, highlighting Bermuda’s world-class regulatory environment and its commitment to compliance, transparency, and innovation. Topics of conversation included improving digital payments to drive economic growth, providing free AI education & upskilling opportunities for Bermudians, and reinvigorating Bermuda’s hedge fund sector.

“Premier Burt was supported at SmartCon by representatives from the Ministry of Finance, the Bermuda Monetary Authority.”
