There were “no reported injuries” after a driver “lost control of the vehicle and went over an embankment and struck a tree” earlier today [Nov 30] on South Road in Paget, the police have confirmed

A police spokesperson said, “Around 9:35 a.m. today, Sunday, November 30, 2025, police were alerted to a single vehicle road traffic collision involving a motorcar on South Road, Paget, just east of the entrance to the Coral Beach and Tennis Club.

“Details are limited at this time, however it is understood the motorcar was traveling east along the South Shore Road, when it appears the driver lost control of the vehicle and went over an embankment and struck a tree.

“There were no reported injuries. There was extensive damage to the front of the vehicle, which had to be removed with the assistance of a crane, resulting in minor traffic delays.

“An investigation into this incident has now begun and anyone with information is asked to call the main police number, 295-0011 or the non-emergency reporting number, 295-0011.”

    Cant park there mate

  2. Cars have so many safety features says:

Today. Not a word about this daily occurence.

  3. Mr. P Meoff says:

Dont understand why W&E havent put up steel Armco road side railings on this stretch. Maybe its on private property in which case Coral Beach should step to the wicket and make that road edge a little safer. Just another example of our appauling road conditions.

    • Joe Bloggs says:

I would not want the Bermuda stone wall and hedge outside my house replaced with a steel barrier, why would anyone else.

My suggestion is that people drive with care and respect. That will not stop the occasional accident due to damage caused by road conditions, but it should stop most single vehicle collisions.

      • Hilarious says:

Just paint the steel barrier to look like Bermuda stone. Hire a few street artists. Problem solved.

    • Question says:

In this case the car was travelling East, i.e. it was supposed to be on the opposite side of the road. In theory, at least.

The roads are appalling though. The death-trap outside the Southampton Princess is still there. Badly signed, no lighting, been there for months, no progress.

    • MADDOG says:

There are lots of sections of road with no steel side railings – how about drivers learn to drive and STOP SPEEDING???!! What, you wants barriers everywhere??? It’s not hard to keep your car on the actual road when you are actually paying attention and following the rules of the road….

      • Joe Bloggs says:

Sorry MADDOG. I have tried advocating the same thing. If falls on deaf ears.

Perhaps it’s time for the Bermuda Police Service to start enforcing traffic laws again.

  4. Triangle Drifter says:

Steel crash barriers are long overdue at many places ariund the island, just a little further east at the bottom of the hill is a prime example, but they are totaly unnecessary along straight sections of roads.

How people are driving off of straight sections of road is beyond understanding. Perhaps they are swerving to avoid potholes. The whole South Road has become an obstacle course these days better suited for rally racing than a road in a place that likes to call itself a prime tourist destination.
