Finalists Named For 2025 BEN Teaching Awards
The Bermuda Education Network, in partnership with Allied World, has announced the ten finalists for the 2025 Teaching Awards — Kelly Massa, Sara Westhead, Denika Wade, Zola French Ray, Terry Henry, Suzette Cheeseman, Stephanie Hughes, Shayla Morton, Karen Trott and Tabathia Roberts — recognising outstanding educators from across the island’s public schools.
A spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Education Network [BEN], in partnership with Allied World, is pleased to announce the ten finalists for the 2025 Teaching Awards. Nominated by administration, colleagues, parents and students from across the island’s public schools, this year’s finalists represent excellence in instruction, student support, inclusion, and innovation.”
The 2025 Teaching Awards Finalists are:
- Kelly Massa – P2 Teacher, Somerset Primary
- Sara Westhead – Digital Literacy & IGCSE English Teacher, Whitney Institute
- Denika Wade – Social Studies Teacher, Whitney Institute
- Zola French Ray – ASD Class Teacher, West Pembroke Primary
- Terry Henry – Music Teacher, Northlands Primary & Paget Primary
- Suzette Cheeseman – Deputy Principal & Reading Teacher, St. David’s Primary
- Stephanie Hughes – Reading Teacher, West End Primary
- Shayla Morton – P5 Teacher, Francis Patton Primary
- Karen Trott – Learning Support Teacher, Purvis Primary
- Tabathia Roberts – P1 & P2 Teacher, East End Primary

Selection committee chairperson, Latoya Pearman, says, “These finalists were selected for their ability to create inclusive, high-expectation classrooms, their dedication to student development, and their leadership within their school communities. Many have contributed to improved literacy outcomes, strengthened school culture, and innovative practices that benefit both colleagues and students.”
Colm Singleton, Head of Allied World Bermuda said “Good teachers shape students’ futures by fostering essential skills and confidence. Allied World is proud to once again support the BEN Teaching Award – wishing all the finalists the best of luck!”
A spokesperson added, “The finalists will be recognized at a special event on January 23rd 2026, where the overall winner will be announced. The awards event will also highlight examples of impactful teaching practices and celebrate the broader contributions of Bermuda’s education community.”
