Drive To Help Jamaica After Hurricane Melissa
The Jamaican Association of Bermuda have teamed up with BermudAir for a relief flight to Jamaica, with an aim to provide aid to those affected by Hurricane Melissa.
The initiative comes in response to the devastation left by the Category 5 hurricane.
Yackeisha Weir, president of the Jamaican Association, expressed the organisation’s gratitude for the outpouring of community support.
“We’re absolutely grateful for the support we have received from the community at large,” she told Bernews.
“I’d like to extend my gratitude to the Government of Bermuda, as well as BermudAir, for their continued support.
“I’d also like to thank Mr Caines for his efforts in executing this initiative.
“We’ve been able to collaborate and connect with the wider community.
“I’ve received an overwhelming number of phone calls from individuals ready to support, from schools asking how they can help the Association and Jamaica. I implore you to donate, donate, donate.”
Mr Caines, speaking as a concerned citizen, has urged the community to contribute to the relief effort by donating goods.
“This is what we call a generational event,” he said. “It would be remiss of me not to thank BermudAir, who have partnered with the Bermudian community to do something special.
“But for the grace of God, this one day could be us. We want to do our part to ensure we keep the balance in the world, and that’s by helping those who are in need.”
Items will be collected at the Hamilton Seventh-Day Adventist Church on King Street on Sunday, from 9am to 1pm and 5pm to 9pm.

Once again Bermuda is demonstrating its willingness to extend kind generosity to those in need.
My donation was financial (a donation to the Red Cross). I hope all of the funds donated are used for the people of Jamaica and the rebuild of the country.
Why not help Bermudians FIRST.
Because half your politicians have links to JAMAICA!! DUH!!!!
Jamaica has been devastated. It needs our help. Helping is the right thing to do.
