BELCO today advised that a fire training exercise will be conducted at its Serpentine Road facility on Tuesday, December 16.

A spokesperson said, “The exercise will involve a live fire on BELCO’s main campus. It is expected that the exercise may be visible to passersby and that there will be some smoke and odour during the training. The live fires will take place in the early afternoon following theory and hose management exercises.

“The fires will be on BELCO property only and will be controlled and limited to wooden pallets that are safe to burn. The exercise will be entirely conducted under the supervision of Fire Life Safety Services.”

BELCO Director of Occupational Support Services Mark Pacheco said, “The health and safety of our staff and the public is of paramount importance to our operations at BELCO. This exercise is part of our employee training and essential to ensure our fire safety staff and operational teams are prepared to prevent and, if necessary, manage or extinguish a fire should one occur on site. The exercise should have minimal impact on the public.”
