St John’s Road Lights Repaired And Active
The Ministry of Public Works and Environment advised that “the permanent traffic lights on St John’s Road, opposite the W. E. R. Joell Tennis Stadium in Pembroke, have been repaired and were returned to service on Wednesday of this week.”
A Government spokesperson said, “The restoration work included the installation of a new traffic signal controller, resolution of programming conflicts, and a series of system checks carried out by the Highways Section and the Public Lands and Buildings, Industrial Electrical Section to ensure safe and reliable operation.
“These repairs follow a prolonged outage after a road traffic accident caused significant damage to the equipment. The extended timeline to complete the work was the result of difficulties in sourcing specialised replacement parts from overseas.”
Minister of Public Works and Environment Jache Adams stated: “I am pleased that the traffic lights on St John’s Road are now operating once again.
“I extend thanks to the Highways Section within the Department of Works and Engineering, and the Industrial Electrical Section within the Department of Public Lands and Buildings, for the technical work required to install the new controller and bring the system back online.
“I also thank the public for their patience during the period that these lights were out of service. This was a complex repair that relied on parts that were not readily available, and I am grateful for the efforts that brought this project to completion.”

They better put plenty of signage up! Or just like east broadway, people are just gonna run them.
What has it been, more than a year to fix those lights?
When people abided by the ‘All way stop’ that intersection was working just fine without the lights.
Here is a thought for the junction, and others, in US and Canada the default is that at a red light one can make a right turn, after a stop, if the way is clear. Conversely why can we not make a left turn, after a stop, on a red light if the way is clear?
That spot runs better without light, now watch the traffic jams now!!
They could have put a roundabout or left it as stop signs after all this time and no accidents.
Thanks for getting the lights fixed. Hard to please Bermudians and why they are unhappy. Thank you.
This area worked fine and great with no lights. People forget the good old days. Collectors Hill was another good example. Now those lights hold up traffic every day for a mile backed up as late as 6pm. In all my years driving, Collectors Hill was safe with no lights, i dont ever recall seeing an accident, but with lights i always see people run the red and speeding to get green.
