Bermuda’s young badminton players gained plenty of experience on the opening day of the Victor Ontario Junior C Tournament in Ottawa.

Competing at Carleton University, the three-man squad of Joseph Lau, Aaron Lee, and JitHom Liew took part in the main draws and consolation brackets across their respective divisions.

Lau delivered Bermuda’s standout performance in the Boys’ Under-19 Division, defeating Davin Uriel Yang Tan in straight sets, 21-12, 21-15.

His run ended in the quarter-finals, where he was beaten by Michael Gadza by the same scoreline.

Also competing in the Under-19 Division, Lee had a first-round loss to Adrian Tand, falling 21-6, 21-4.

He later contested the consolation quarter-final but was defeated 21-7, 21-11 by Xavier Ming Feng Chan.

Thirteen-year-old Liew competed in the Boys’ Under-15 Division and pushed Ishan Atharva Gokhale hard, narrowly losing 21-17, 21-19.

He then moved into the consolation quarter-finals, where he was beaten 21-15, 21-9 by Daniel Paul.

Coach Emma Moran-Lee has accompanied the team.

The doubles events are scheduled to take place today.
