Karting driver Scott Barnes finished runner-up in the first round of the Rok Cup Florida Winter Tour in Orlando, Florida, today [January 18].

Barnes, who races for Maranello Karts USA, is competing in the full series for the first time in his career.

He won heat one, heat three, and the pre-final before finishing second in the final.

“Disappointing end to a good weekend,” Barnes said.

“After missing pole by two tenths, we came back to win heat one, heat three, and the pre-final.

“Today’s final was brought forward due to a storm rolling in, and we raced at 8.50am. I think I was still not fully awake because second was all I had today.

“We ran the fastest times of the final, but a poor launch off the start line left us in second, where we stayed for the 18-lap race.

“We made two strong runs at the leader, but a couple of small mistakes made the difference.

“It was a good points weekend as we aim for a Rok Championship. We’re going to pound laps before the next round and come back faster, stronger, better, and more motivated to win.”

The championship consists of three rounds, with the second taking place at the Orlando Kart Centre from February 6 to 8, and the third at the Kartplex in Palmetto, Florida, from March 6 to 8.

Barnes is sponsored by Butterfield & Vallis, representing their Powerade brand, Simpsons Motorsports, and All Rise Limited.
