Khianda Pearman-Watson says she is honoured to captain Lindo’s Tigers in the Bermuda Netball Association Winter League this season and is encouraged by their strong start to their title defence.

The Tigers, coached by Anthony Mouchette, enjoyed a flawless campaign last season, collecting 36 points from 12 matches to end Phoenix Heat’s long-standing domestic dominance.

They have begun the new campaign in similarly dominant fashion to lead the standings, although Pearman-Watson says the team is not becoming complacent.

“The season’s started well for us,” Pearman-Watson told Bernews. “We’ve had some really good games where our teamwork showed, and you can see the effort everyone’s putting in.

“There are still things we know we can improve on, but the vibes are good and we’re building nicely as a team on and off the court. We’re in a good position, but we’re just focused on taking it game by game.”

Operating as either goalkeeper or goal defence, Pearman-Watson says consistency and cohesion remain the team’s priorities.

“This season, our main focus is staying consistent and working well together as a team,” she said. “We’re keeping things simple, trusting our coach and backing each other on court. Most importantly, we always remind ourselves to enjoy it.”

Pearman-Watson succeeded Jahtuere Trott as captain this season and said the appointment carries personal significance.

“Being named captain honestly means a lot to me,” she said. “Tigers is full of talented, committed players, so to have the trust of my team-mates and coach is something I really appreciate.

“I don’t take the role lightly. I see it as a chance to support the team, lead by example and represent us proudly on and off the court.”

She added that enjoyment and sportsmanship remain central to the Tigers’ approach.

“We all genuinely love netball, so having fun, playing with passion and showing good sportsmanship is just as important to us,” Pearman-Watson said. “We want to enjoy every game and hopefully inspire the next generation along the way.”

The national team player said the champions expect increased competition this season.

“Every team raises their level when you’re the ones to beat, so we know we’ll get everyone’s best game,” she said. “We’re taking that as motivation, staying focused, putting in the work and making sure we don’t get too comfortable or complacent.”
