Phillips & Tulane Defeat Southern University
Daniel Phillips and his Tulane University men’s tennis team opened the 2026 spring season with a 7-0 victory against Southern University at the City Park Tennis Center.
Phillips played in the number one singles position for the Green Wave where he defeated Southern’s Lwazi Ngwenya in straight sets with a score of 6-1, 6-0.
In doubles competition, Phillips partnered with Lance Nisbet to face Ngwenya and Mpho Leshoele. The match was ruled unfinished with Phillips and Nisbet leading 5-3 after Tulane secured the doubles point on other courts.
Phillips is scheduled to represent Bermuda in the upcoming Davis Cup World Group II play-off where he will be part of a four-man Bermudian squad that includes Trey Mallory, Wayne Montgomery, and Zachary McGuire.
