Lee Terceira Wins USTA Title In Miami
Lee Terceira became the first female junior player from Bermuda to win a Level 5 Open USTA Tournament in the Under 12 Division in Miami.
Terceira entered the tournament draw the night before the first round following player withdrawals.
In the Round of 16, she defeated Bhuvika Syamagari of Illinois in straight sets. Terceira faced second seed Sophie Murphy Alvarez in the quarter-finals, recovering from a first-set loss to win the second set 6-3 and the tie-breaker 10-6. Bermuda Davis Cup captain Ricky Mallory and player Trey Mallory attended the match.
Terceira played Andrea Rivas in the semi-finals. After losing the first-set tie-breaker, she won the second set and the deciding tie-breaker 10-5.
In the championship match, Terceira defeated third seed Lidiia Filippova in straight sets to win the title.
