Ministers Attend Floating Bookfair Opening
Multiple government ministers recently attended the official opening of the MV Logos Hope, which hosts the world’s largest floating bookfair.
A Government spokesperson said, “Last week, [Feb. 12], on behalf of the Government of Bermuda, Deputy Premier and Minister of Housing and Municipalities, the Hon. Zane DeSilva, JP, MP, the Acting Minister of Tourism & Transport, Culture & Sport, the Hon. Alexa Lightbourne, JP, MP, and the Minister of Education, Sen. the Hon. Crystal Caesar, JP, attended the official opening of the MV Logos Hope, which hosts the world’s largest floating bookfair.
“The Logos Hope has returned to Bermuda for the first time in 16 years and is docked in Hamilton until March 4.
“The Ministers’ visit formed part of the ship’s official welcome of partners and the ceremonial opening of the onboard bookfair. The fair features a diverse selection of more than 5,000 books and is designed to offer young people, students, and members of the host country the opportunity to expand their knowledge, broaden their perspectives, and experience the joy of reading.
“The vessel is operated by a volunteer crew and staff of approximately 300 people from more than 60 nations, united in a mission to share knowledge, help, and hope with people of all ages, cultures, and religions. On average, one million visitors are welcomed aboard the organisation’s ships each year worldwide.”
Following the visit, Minister Lightbourne, said, “It was a pleasure to attend the Official Opening of Logos Hope as she visits Hamilton. This vessel represents community and the value of collaboration, and its visit provides a unique opportunity that promotes learning, global awareness, and cross cultural exchange. Bermuda is honoured to welcome the captain and its diverse crew, and we celebrate the spirit of service and shared humanity that Logos Hope brings to our shores.”
And Minister Caesar said, “The return of Logos Hope to Bermuda represents a truly remarkable opportunity for our students, families, and educators alike. The presence of the Logos Hope on our shores once again provides access to an extraordinary collection of literature from across the globe. It deepens literacy skills, broadens worldviews, and nurtures critical thinking. Experiences like this help cultivate a culture of inquiry and imagination, particularly among our young people, while also supporting educators and families in fostering a sustained love of literacy. We are delighted to welcome this enriching educational experience back to Bermuda and look forward to the positive and lasting impact it will have across our island.”

While the floating book shop looks lovely, let’s not forget Bermuda’s local retail sector – there are two comprehensive book stores a block away from the Logos Hope, both of which will special order any title not in stock. I hope Bermudians paying the $3 entrance fee to visit the ship, will seriously consider supporting our own economy if inspired to purchase books.
I agree 100 percent with your comment. Or we will hear why did they close like we dont know. The same was repeatedly mentioned about the Music Box and AS Coopers. …and others. Our businesses need shoppers as simple as that.
You rarely see them at a local book launch. So Bermudians should have them on a boat even if a row boat and they will come. Lots going on but they are not to be seen until an election is on the horizon. Sad.
Welcome Logos Hope to Bermuda!
Although it is nice to support local businesses it is also nice to be able to purchase 10 books (which I did) for what I would have paid for two locally. Sorry but have to stretch that dollar. They also have an amazing selection of books.
