Gathering Set For BIU Gordon Hall Tomorrow
A gathering will be held tomorrow [Feb 24] at the BIU Dr. Gordon Hall to “explore lessons and opportunities for healing and reconciliation stemming from the 1965 BELCO Crisis.”
A spokesperson said, “From the lunchtime gathering on February 2, 2026 at Devonshire Recreation Club marking the anniversary of the milestone of the ’65 BELCO Crisis, the conclusion was reached that even out of that tragedy came opportunities and lessons that continue to offer societal guidance in the 21st century.
“On Tuesday, February 24, a follow up gathering will be held at the BIU Dr Gordon Hall from 5.30pm to 7.00pm to further explore those lessons/opportunities with the view of benefiting current generations.
“These lessons include:
- The benefit of using a safe space for surfacing emotions from challenging experiences which fosters healing and reconciliation, across sectors of our community.
- How bad faith relations which undermine trust across society can be replaced with win-win options.
- How lemons were transformed into lemonade.
- How a period of renaissance at the Devonshire Recreation Club led to a collaboration with the BIU at that critical period. Innovation in the late 50s at that workman’s club provided a prototype that offers guidance for today.
- The benefit of collaboration – moving outside of our silos – is exemplified.
“We can see that reflections on this chapter of our shared story offers benefit to all sectors of Bermuda, across generations, and all our welcome, free of charge.
“Thanks must go to our gracious hosts, the BIU.
“This interactive dialogue at Tuesday’s gathering will be facilitated by Nekesha Holdipp, Social Science Coordinator for the Department of Education, and Glenn Fubler, activist and past President/Executive Officer of the BUT.”
