Bermuda Is Love ‘ReclaimOurFood’ Campaign
Bermuda Is Love is launching its first two-month campaign, #ReclaimOurFood, as “not simply a series of events, but a call to transformation.”
A spokesperson said, “Food in Bermuda is too often treated as a commodity. Health is treated as a private responsibility. Meanwhile, access to fresh, nourishing food remains uneven, and preventable disease continues to rise. Bermuda Is Love rejects the idea that this is normal. We reject the idea that this is inevitable.
“This campaign begins with a simple but radical belief: Access to healthy, nutritious food is a human right. For generations, Bermudians grew, shared, and preserved food in ways that bound communities together. Today, we rely heavily on imports, face rising costs, and watch health disparities deepen. Food insecurity is not a failure of individuals; it is the result of systems that prioritise profit over people.
“This March and April, Bermuda Is Love invites you to imagine and actively build something different. The #ReclaimOurFood Campaign will take place across Bermuda through workshops, foraging walks, gardening days, nutrition classes, volunteer actions, and community gatherings.
“This campaign is not about trends. It is not about diet culture. It is not about perfection. It is about liberation. When a community can grow its own food, it reduces dependence. When people understand nutrition, they gain agency over their bodies. When neighbours cook and garden together, isolation gives way to solidarity. Food sovereignty is community sovereignty.
“We recognise that Bermuda’s history, shaped by colonialism, racial inequality, economic exclusion, and land access disparities, directly impacts who has access to fertile soil, fresh produce, and preventive healthcare today. Health inequity is not accidental. It is structured. To address food insecurity without addressing power would be incomplete.
“The Bermuda Is Love #ReclaimOurFood Campaign seeks to shift the conversation: From scarcity to abundance. From charity to justice. From consumption to cultivation. From individual blame to collective responsibility.
“We invite Bermuda to move beyond awareness and into participation; to place hands in soil, to learn skills our ancestors once knew, to ask hard questions about who controls food systems, and to build alternatives rooted in equity and care. A healthier Bermuda is not just about longer lives; it is about fuller, freer ones.
