‘Discover Hamilton’ walking tours with Town Crier Ed Christopher resume April 1, alongside a new animated video highlighting the City’s history.

A spokesperson said, “The City of Hamilton is pleased to advise that the popular Discover Hamilton walking tours led by Town Crier Ed Christopher will resume on April 1 and run through December 31.

“To coincide with the return of the tours, the City has released a new animated video celebrating the City’s Town Crier, Ed Christopher, and the rich history of Hamilton.

“Titled The Day the Town Crier Went Missing, the short film follows two Bermudian children, Jax and Jada, as they search for the missing Town Crier by solving riddles and following clues hidden throughout the City. Along the way, they visit many of the locations featured on Ed’s walking tours, including Fort Hamilton, the Birdcage, Nellie’s Walk, and other well-known landmarks.

“Written by the City’s Public Relations Manager, Helen Zoellner, the animated video introduces young viewers to Hamilton’s history in an engaging and accessible way, blending storytelling, exploration, and local heritage. Designed as an educational resource, the film encourages students to see familiar places with fresh eyes and develop a deeper appreciation for the City around them.

“Next month, the City will host special screenings of the film for interested City schools. Students will receive miniature Town Crier bells, Town Crier-themed cookies, and have the opportunity to meet Mr. Christopher in person following the screening.”

“There is so much history around us that often goes unnoticed,” said Mr. Christopher. “Hamilton is filled with stories waiting to be discovered. My hope is that this video encourages young people, and the wider community, to see the City not just as a place they pass through, but as a place with meaning, character, and pride.”

The City’s Director of Marketing and Communications Ms Jessica Astwood said the project was developed as a way to share Ed Christopher’s deep knowledge with younger audiences in a format that feels engaging and fun. “Ed has an incredible ability to bring history to life,” she said. “Helping our children understand the stories, places, and people that shaped their island is essential to building a strong sense of identity and purpose. By giving them a window into where they come from, the City hopes to inspire pride, curiosity, and a deeper connection to Bermuda and the City’s heritage.”

The spokesperson said, “The free walking tours, led by Mr. Christopher, depart from the steps of City Hall and last approximately one hour and 45 minutes. They offer an engaging journey through Hamilton’s past, uncovering the stories behind many of the City’s most prominent landmarks.

“Celebrating more than 30 years in the role, Mr. Christopher draws on decades of research and generations of oral history to bring Hamilton’s history to life with insight, warmth, and humour. Each tour is tailored to the group, ensuring a unique and memorable experience for residents and visitors alike.

“The tour is free of charge, wheelchair accessible, and includes complimentary water.

“The video will premiere on April 1, coinciding with the start of the Town Crier tours, and will be available on the City of Hamilton’s YouTube page here.

“While walk-ins are welcome, advance reservations for the tours are encouraged via the City’s website or by emailing events@cityhall.bm. Gratuities are appreciated. In addition to daily public tours, Mr. Christopher also offers private bookings, school tours, and custom experiences by request. He can be contacted directly at towncrier@cityhall.bm.”
