Premier Burt Attends Clyde Best Premiere
Football pioneer Clyde Best was joined by Bermuda’s Premier David Burt in London yesterday [March 25] for the premiere of a new documentary on the former West Ham United striker’s life and career.
The film, Transforming the Beautiful Game: The Clyde Best Story, opened at Sadler’s Wells East, drawing former players, contributors and invited guests to mark the occasion.
Burt, a supporter of West Ham, was among those greeting Best before the screening, underlining the cultural significance of the project for Bermuda.
Also attending the premier were Bermudian professional footballers Nahki Wells and Reggie Lambe.
Best made his name at West Ham in the late 1960s and 1970s, emerging as one of the first Black players to achieve prominence in England’s top division during the modern television era.
His career later took him to the North American Soccer League, where he featured for the Tampa Bay Rowdies and Portland Timbers.
The London premiere is the first of four scheduled screenings, with further showings planned in Bermuda next month before a North American tour from May through July.
Attendees included former players Mickey Ambrose, Paul Canoville, Ade Coker, Tony Cottee, Les Ferdinand, Patrick Horne and Clive Wilson, as well as executive producer Dan Egan.
