Scott Barnes Aiming For Rok Cup Title
Bermuda karting driver Scott Barnes heads into the third and final round of the Rok Cup Florida Winter Tour in Orlando in a strong position to claim the title.
Barnes, competing in the full series for the first time in his career, leads the standings ahead of deciding races at the T4 Kartplex in Palmetto, Florida, from Friday [March 6] to Sunday.
“It’s one of the tracks I haven’t raced at before, so I’ll be getting some practice in on Wednesday and Thursday,” Barnes said.
“It’s a bit unfortunate that it’s the home track of the main rival I’m battling for the title, Cole Matthewson, but hopefully I can learn the circuit quickly and be up to speed by Friday.”
Although Barnes holds a points advantage heading into the finale, each round carries progressively greater points value.
“In a normal series, with the lead I have, finishing second throughout the week would be enough to clinch the championship,” he said.
“As it stands, I’ll need to win at least one race to secure the title, so we have some work to do.”
Barnes races for Maranello Karts USA and is sponsored by Butterfield & Vallis, representing its Powerade brand, Simpsons Motorsports and All Rise Limited.
