Rodrigues & Vieira Help Eckerd Finish 4th
Bermuda sailors Paul Rodrigues Jr. and Jordan Vieira helped Eckerd College secure a fourth-place finish at the SAISA Top Six Fleet Race in Charleston.
Competing among 18 boats across three divisions, Eckerd faced challenging conditions, including outgoing tides and winds of 6 to 8 knots. Rodrigues Jr., sailing with Avery Guck in the A Division, and Vieira, paired with Tia Soultanakis in the B Division, contributed key performances for the Tritons.
Eckerd’s A Division posted seven top-10 finishes in the morning, while the B Division added six. A midday lull with lighter winds of 3 to 5 knots and an incoming tide required teams to adjust tactics. The regatta switched from 420s to FJs for the final three sets, with Eckerd entering the midpoint in third place overall before finishing fourth among the six teams with 274 points.
Individually, Rodrigues Jr. placed eighth in the A Division with 72 points, Vieira finished 10th in the B Division with 90 points, and the C Division pairing of Peter Miller and Peyton Elizabeth Seidle placed 13th with 112 points.
The result provides a strong foundation for Eckerd’s spring season as the Florida-based program continues competing against the top teams in the South Atlantic Intercollegiate Sailing Association.
