A spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Economic Development Corporation [BEDC] will host a free two-part webinar on Monday, April 27 and Thursday, April 30, 2026, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. each evening via Zoom. Cooperative Homeownership: The Power of Residents in Control will introduce the cooperative housing model and explore how it can support long-term affordability, stability, and community-led development in Bermuda.
“The sessions will be led by Peter Dean, Director of UHAB National [Urban Homesteading Assistance Board], whose organisation has helped create over 1,300 limited equity housing cooperatives totalling more than 30,000 homes across New York City over the past 50 years. The webinar will be co-moderated by Zayne Sinclair, Social Innovator at Innavise, who will connect global insights to local opportunities and considerations specific to Bermuda.
“Across both sessions, participants will gain an introduction to the cooperative housing model, an overview of the development pathway including how buildings transition into cooperative ownership, financing and affordability structures that support long-term sustainability, and key considerations for implementing cooperative housing models locally.”
William Spriggs, Director of Economic and Cooperative Development at BEDC, spoke to the significance of the sessions, “Housing affordability is one of the more pressing challenges facing Bermuda residents. This webinar gives us the opportunity to look honestly at what other models exist and whether cooperative ownership could be part of a sustainable path forward here. We want people to come with questions.”
A spokesperson added, “The webinar is designed for community leaders, policymakers, and residents exploring alternative pathways to homeownership. Attendance is free and open to the public.
