The BNAA will mark Kids’ Athletics Day on May 7 with events for children promoting movement, inclusion, and fun participation.

A spokesperson said, “As 2026 marks five years of Kids’ Athletics Day, The Bermuda National Athletics Association [BNAA] is pleased to announce that it will be joining World Athletics in inviting kids across Bermuda to join in celebrating everything Kids’ Athletics stands for – movement, learning, inclusion, sustainability and community.

“Kids’ Athletics is an initiative that uses the power of athletics to inspire children around the world to be more active. Since its launch in 2022, Kids’ Athletics Day has grown into a truly global celebration, reaching 1.3 million children across schools, clubs and communities. Each year has offered a new theme, a new challenge and new ways to engage children in fun, inclusive and age-appropriate athletics activities.

Get Ready for Kids’ Athletics Day 2026

“The countdown is on for Kids’ Athletics Day on 7 May 2026. This year marks five years of inspiring children around the world to move, play and enjoy athletics. The 2026 theme celebrates the power of FIVE, highlighting five years of impact and focusing on celebration and connection. This year’s campaign encourages local creativity while contributing to one shared global goal: getting more children moving, more often, through athletics.

“The campaign has set its biggest goal yet: a cumulative total of more than 2 million children participating over five years. Since 2022, more than 1.3 million kids have joined the fun, and now the aim is to inspire at least 700,000 more to get moving in 2026. Learn more about Kids’ Athletics Day at kidsathleticsday.org.

“The full campaign will run from 1-31 May, launching at the Debswana World Relays in Botswana where Kids’ Athletics ambassador Letsile Tebogo [the 200M Men’s Olympic Champion] will lead an activation with local children.

“The BNAA is excited to celebrate Kids’ Athletics Day on Saturday, May 9, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Whitney Institute with a fun-filled morning designed to introduce children to the foundational skills of athletics through running, jumping, and throwing activities. Young participants will rotate through engaging circuit-based challenges led by local coaches and athletes, including obstacle runs, jumping stations, throwing events, and team relays that promote confidence, teamwork, and physical literacy in an energetic and supportive environment.

“This exciting community event aims to inspire the next generation by spreading the love of sport and connecting new communities through athletics, while ensuring every child has the opportunity to move, learn, and thrive. Parents are encouraged to register their children today here. As part of its ongoing Development Programs, the BNAA will continue to host Kids’ Athletics sessions on a quarterly basis. Look out for future announcements and opportunities to participate and volunteer.”
