Kim Burns Pickleball Tournament Continues

The third annual Kim Burns Memorial Pickleball Tournament continued at the W.E.R. Joell Tennis Stadium, with players competing across multiple divisions as the group stages concluded and knockout rounds were set for Thursday’s finals.

In the Men’s 4.0 Open division, Rian Michelsen and Niels van der Velden opened with an 11-1 victory over Aman Sanganeria and Nicholaas van de Westhuizen in the first round. Xavier James and Scott Redmond also recorded a win, defeating Ryan Hayward and Marcin Czarnocki 11-5.

During the second round, Sanganeria and van de Westhuizen rebounded with an 11-4 win against James and Redmond. Michelsen and van der Velden continued their strong form with another 11-1 victory, this time over Hayward and Czarnocki.

In the 3.5 Mixed Doubles Open division, Mary Rose Sebastian and Chris Smith defeated Michael Burns and Jessica Burns 11-2 in Pool A.

Pool B featured Sanjay Dhuria and Michelle Jackson defeating Natalie Chaves and Harry Andrew 11-7, while Julie Matthews Borchardt and Aman Sanganeria recorded an 11-0 victory over Kelly Reeves and Paul Hayward.

Pool C saw LaVerne Stowe and Josh Bang defeat Nicholas Butterfield and Tschana Wade 11-8, while Theodosios Caimas and Pearl Ingram beat Edgar W. Griffith and Fiona Donald 11-7.

In the 3.5 Mixed Doubles 50 Plus division, Lisa Maule and Jan Brewer won the gold medal, while Tracy Shott and Terry Madeiros secured silver.

The Men’s 4.0 50 Plus division saw Michael Burns and Buggy Powell clinch the bronze medal. Vincent Chaves and Jose Barroso are set to face Ryon Outerbridge and Muhammad Khan for the gold medal on Thursday.

In the Men’s 4.5 Open division, Mical Russell and John Singleton secured bronze medals, while Benjamin Jones and Gavin Manders will face Jasper Thomas and Tom Mills in the final.

Thursday’s semi-final schedule in the 3.5 Mixed Doubles Open division will feature Theodosios Caimas and Pearl Ingram against Edgar Griffith and Fiona Donaldson, while Mary Rose Sebastian and Chris Smith will face Julie Matthews-Borchardt and Aman Sanganeria.

In the Men’s 4.0 Open division, Michelsen and van der Velden will play Hayward and Czarnocki, while James and Redmond will meet Sanganeria and van der Westhuizen.
