Somersfield Sweeps School Badminton Titles
Somersfield Academy won all four gold medals at the Middle School Boys Badminton Championships held at the Somersfield Academy Gym, with the host school dominating both the Under-13 and Over-13 divisions.
Mason Smith led the way in the Under-13 competition, claiming two gold medals during a strong performance for Somersfield.
Smith defeated fellow Somersfield player James Wallace 15-8, 15-5 in the Under-13 singles final, while Hugo Adams secured bronze for the hosts with a 15-6, 15-10 win over Warwick Academy’s Jahkari Burgess-Samuels in the third-place match.
Smith and Wallace then teamed up to win the Under-13 doubles title, defeating Warwick Academy’s Camden Collette and Maxwell Williams 15-7 in the final.
Saltus Grammar earned bronze in the doubles division as Charles Balderas and Joseph Yammine defeated Warwick Academy’s Cole Prior and Burgess-Samuels in the third-place match.
Somersfield also swept the top medals in the Over-13 singles division. JitHom Liew defeated James Bigley 15-10, 15-8 in the final, while Daniel Dalene beat Dominic Slater 15-10 to secure bronze.
Bigley later returned to win the Over-13 doubles title alongside Praroop Srivatava. The pair defeated Liew and Colton Keans 15-10 in the final.
Warwick Academy’s George Peniston and Cayden Lee claimed bronze in the Over-13 doubles competition with a win over Saltus Grammar’s Owen Grasso and James Kenahan.
