BELCO Restore Power After Widespread Outage
[Updating] A power outage has affected people across the island this afternoon [June 5] and BELCO crews are working to restore power.
The company said, “We are aware of an outage affecting customers across the island. Our crew is aware and is working to restore power as quickly and safely as possible, as weather conditions allow.
“Please exercise extreme caution when driving, walking or riding near our working crews. The safety of you, our crew, the public and all road users is paramount.
“If you are affected by this outage, please unplug all sensitive equipment and electronics. We thank you for your patience as we work to restore your power.”
We will update with additional information as able.
Update 5.50pm: As of this writing, the outage map shows 900 customers remain without power.
Update 6.07pm: As of now, 156 customers are listed as without power
Update 7.19pm: BELCO President Wayne Caines said “At approximately 5:00pm this evening, BELCO experienced a load shed that resulted in a loss of power to approximately 11,000 customers.
“Power was restored within approximately 20 minutes to the majority of customers. The remaining 800 customers in St. George’s were restored shortly after, with all customers back online within an hour.
BELCO thanks customers for their patience this evening.”
