Cricket: Sandys & Pembroke Advance To Finals

The Sandys Spartans and the Pembroke Panthers both secured victories in the semi-finals of the Bermuda Smash Invitational at the National Sports Centre North Field to advance to the tournament final.

Sandys Spartans 220/4 Hamilton Parish Hurricanes 166/8

Bermudian cricketer Kamau Leverock scored 107 runs off 54 deliveries to lead the Sandys Spartans to a 54-run victory over the defending champions Hamilton Parish Hurricanes in the first semi-final of the Bermuda Smash Invitational at the National Sports Centre North Field.

Leverock hit nine fours and nine sixes during his innings. Team-mate Delray Rawlins contributed 59 runs off 27 balls, which included four sixes. Raj Nannan was the peak bowler for the Hamilton Parish Hurricanes, taking two wickets for 32 runs in his four overs.

Chasing a target of 221 runs, the Hamilton Parish Hurricanes finished their innings at 166 for the loss of eight wickets. Jonte Smith top-scored for the side with 34 runs, while Isaiah O’Brien took two wickets for 24 runs for the Sandys Spartans.

Smith’s Sixers 129 Pembroke Panthers 132/5

The Pembroke Panthers secured a five-wicket victory over Smith’s Sixers in the second semi-final of the tournament to advance to the final.

After winning the toss and choosing to bat first, Smith’s Sixers were bowled out for 129 runs with one ball remaining in their innings. Anthony Mosca top-scored with 28 runs. Johnathan Van Lange took three wickets for 23 runs for the Pembroke Panthers.

In reply, the Pembroke Panthers reached 132 runs for the loss of five wickets with seven balls to spare. Charles Trott scored an unbeaten 45 runs to guide the team to victory, while Bret Hampton took three wickets for 23 runs for Smith’s Sixers during the chase.
