The National Museum of Bermuda has opened ‘Your Pictures, Your Objects, Your Stories, Our History’, an exhibition exploring Bermuda’s shared history through community stories.

A spokesperson said, “The National Museum of Bermuda [NMB] has opened Your Pictures, Your Objects, Your Stories, Our History, a new exhibition that brings together community-contributed photographs and object-based digital stories to explore how personal memories connect to Bermuda’s shared history.

“The exhibition, which opened on Thursday, 25 June 2026 with over 70 attendees, draws on two major Museum crowd sourcing initiatives—Bermuda Family Scrapbook and The Objects That Make Us—and features first-person narratives from everyday people whose lives and experiences have shaped Bermuda’s communities across generations. Through photographs, objects, and personal reflections, visitors encounter stories of migration, work, education, wartime experiences, family life, and community care, offering a deeply human perspective on the Island’s past and present.

“More than a collection of images and objects, the exhibition invites the community to play an active role in shaping how history is shared and understood. By placing personal experiences at the center of the narrative, it reveals a history that extends beyond traditional archives, one preserved through family memories, relationships, and the everyday experiences that connect generations.”

NMB Curator Dr. Deborah Atwood said, “What makes this exhibition so powerful is that it places personal and family stories at the heart of Bermuda’s history. As a living, ongoing project, it also creates opportunities for others to add their voices, ensuring that Bermuda’s story continues to grow and evolve.

Elena Strong, Executive Director of the National Museum of Bermuda, added, “I’d like to thank everyone who contributed to the Bermuda Family Scrapbook and The Objects That Make Us projects. We are grateful for the trust you have placed in the Museum in sharing your stories. We hope this exhibition encourages others to revisit their own family photographs and objects, and to consider what stories they hold. Museums are keepers of memory, and this exhibition shows how those memories live in our collections and within our community.”
