Bermudian middle-distance runner Nirobi Smith-Mills produced a season-best performance at the British Milers Club [BMC] Grand Prix in Birmingham, clocking 1:49.52 in the men’s 800 metres.

Competing at the Birmingham University Athletics Track, the 23-year-old Nottingham Trent University student finished sixth in a strong ‘B’ race field after negotiating a fast-paced opening lap and closing strongly over the final 200 metres.

The time improved significantly on the 1:52.80 he recorded at the Loughborough International last month, lowering his season-best mark by more than three seconds as he continues his outdoor campaign ahead of a busy summer schedule.

The race was won by David Holman of Blackburn in 1:48.36, with Tobias Cheesbrough finishing second, just one-hundredth of a second behind.
