Tennis: Jamaica Defeat Bermuda Women 2-1
The Bermuda women’s national tennis team lost 2-1 to Jamaica in their second round-robin tie at the Billie Jean King Cup Americas Group III tournament.
Player-captain Shelby Madeiros gave Bermuda an early lead at the Federacion Salvadorena de Tenis in Santa Tecla, El Salvador, defeating Jamaica’s Katherine Dibbs 6-2, 6-2 in the opening singles rubber.
Jamaica levelled the tie in the second singles match, with Kinaa Graham defeating Nadhira Durham 6-0, 6-0.
The decisive doubles rubber determined the overall result, with Dibbs and Graham defeating Madeiros and Alexcie Burrows 6-0, 6-3 to complete the comeback victory for Jamaica.
The result follows Bermuda’s 3-0 defeat against Panama in their opening tie of the regional tournament. The Bermudian squad will play their remaining group fixtures later this week.
