BMA Warns About Investment Seminar
The Bermuda Monetary Authority [BMA] is urging the public to exercise caution after learning that Bermuda residents were invited to an investment seminar, noting that “before committing funds, members of the public should carefully review all offering materials, seek independent professional advice where appropriate, and confirm whether the person or entity promoting the investment is licensed or registered to conduct investment business.”
A spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Monetary Authority [Authority or BMA] has been made aware that invitations were sent to residents of Bermuda inviting them to an ‘investment opportunity seminar’ [Investment Seminar] which was held at a hotel in Bermuda on 14 July 2026. The Authority notes that the invitations to attend the Investment Seminar were sent by a UK-based capital introduction business on behalf of its UK-based client. According to the information available to the Authority, neither entity is regulated in Bermuda or the UK.
“The invitation to the Investment Seminar included a ‘fact sheet’. The Authority’s review of the fact sheet found that:
- 1] It was not specifically targeting high-net worth/sophisticated investors;
- 2] It lacked a clear disclaimer that it was not an offer to invest or an invitation to subscribe for any investment; and
- 3] It included references to monthly payments [referred to both as returns and interest], which are based on the amount invested with annual rates as follows: 10% for a $10,000 investment; 12% for a $20,000 investment; 15% for a $50,000 investment; and $18% for a $100,000 investment.
“The Authority advises the public that investments offering returns significantly higher than market averages typically carry higher risk. In this case, no risk information was included in the fact sheet or invitation.
“The Authority also reminds the public that it maintains a list of all regulated entities on its website that are licensed or registered to conduct investment business in Bermuda. Members of the public are encouraged to consult this list to verify the licensing or registration status of any entity before investing. Conducting investment business with unregulated entities carries an increased risk for potential investors, particularly where entities promise unusually high returns without disclosing the associated risks.
“Before committing funds, members of the public should carefully review all offering materials, seek independent professional advice where appropriate, and confirm whether the person or entity promoting the investment is licensed or registered to conduct investment business.”
