Chubb Donation Helps Tech & Trades Education
A $200,000 donation by the Chubb Charitable Foundation Bermuda has “significantly strengthened technical education programmes at Bermuda College,” the Bermuda College Foundation said, explaining that the grant enabled targeted upgrades for the motor vehicle, plumbing, electrical and HVAC programmes.
A spokesperson said, “Bermuda College Foundation proudly celebrates the transformative impact of a $200,000 donation from the Chubb Charitable Foundation – Bermuda, awarded in December 2024, which has significantly strengthened technical education programmes at Bermuda College and enhanced workforce readiness across the island.
“As a longstanding strategic partner, the Chubb Charitable Foundation – Bermuda has consistently demonstrated its commitment to advancing education and economic opportunity in Bermuda. This most recent investment builds upon previous support, which includes the donation of two hybrid vehicles to the College’s Motor Vehicle Technology Programme, a ‘Train the Trainer’ initiative to build faculty expertise in emerging automotive technologies, and vital scholarship funding for students.

“The $200,000 grant has enabled targeted upgrades across four key Technical Education Division programmes at Bermuda College: Motor Vehicle Technology, Plumbing Technology, Electrical Wiring, and Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning [HVAC]. These enhancements are already driving meaningful outcomes for students, faculty, and industry.
Advancing Modern, Hands-On Technical Training
The funding has been used to procure industry-standard tools, equipment, and training platforms that reflect today’s sophisticated workforce requirements. Highlights include:
- HVAC Programme: Introduction of advanced diagnostic tools, energy-efficient equipment, and a virtual reality training platform that offers immersive, hands-on learning experiences aligned with modern environmental and refrigerant standards.
- Motor Vehicle Technology: Expanded training in electric vehicle [EV] systems, high-voltage safety, and next-generation diagnostic equipment, ensuring students are prepared for the global shift toward sustainable transportation.
- Electrical Wiring: Upgraded lab facilities and tools supporting residential, commercial, and industrial wiring systems, with a focus on safety, sustainability, and international certification standards.
- Plumbing Technology: Integration of modern fixtures, heating equipment, and real-world installation systems, providing students with practical experience aligned with Bermuda’s building codes and industry expectations.
