[Updated] LaLique Simmons marked her 30th birthday by hosting a “30 for 30” initiative, bringing together volunteers to assemble and distribute care packages for individuals and families in need.

The community contributed donations of at least $30 or essential household and grocery items to help create a minimum of 30 care packages. The event, held at the Bermuda Ex-Artilleryman’s Club, also featured music and refreshments.

Ms Simmons told Bernews “30 for 30 was birthed off just seeing our community experiencing food vulnerabilities and insecurities. I am a registered nurse by day, so I see what’s happening in our community every day, so it just felt like a no-brainer to me.

“I’ve always been service-driven and this is just – it’s nothing. I am very grateful for the support that’s here tonight. We’ve exceeded our 30 bags, so 30 for 30 is now 30 plus. I’m absolutely grateful, and this wouldn’t be a success without the community.

“I just want to give a shoutout to my supporters and those that have worked closely with me for the birth of this, and that is Creations Co. and that’s New Heights Media – this wouldn’t be a thing if it wasn’t for them, so I’m absolutely grateful for each and every one of you.”

Update July 21, 1.24pm: A spokesperson said, “What began as a birthday celebration rooted in service became a remarkable demonstration of Bermuda’s generosity, compassion, and community spirit. Created by LaLique Simmons to celebrate her 30th birthday, the 30 for 30 initiative set out with the goal of preparing 30 care packages for individuals and families in need.

“Thanks to an extraordinary outpouring of support from local businesses, organisations, family, friends, and volunteers, that goal was not only achieved but more than tripled, with over 90 care packages assembled for distribution at the Ex-Artillerymen’s Club on Sunday, July 19, 2026. To further support recipients, CG Insurance generously donated 30 gift cards, while additional gift cards from BELCO, The Marketplace, Lindo’s, and Phoenix Stores were purchased to accompany the care packages.

“Each care package was thoughtfully assembled with essential household and personal care items including toilet tissue, paper towels, laundry detergent, dishwashing liquid, bath soap, body wash, toothbrushes, toothpaste, canned vegetables, canned meats, pasta, rice, soup, cereal, oatmeal, peanut butter, pancake mix, pancake syrup, snacks, beverages, and other pantry staples. Many packages also included special treats to bring a little extra comfort and joy to recipients.”

Ms. Simmons said, “This initiative started as a way to celebrate my birthday by giving back. I never imagined the response we would receive. To witness so many people and businesses unite around a single purpose was incredibly moving. This experience reminded me that when a community comes together, there is no limit to the impact we can have.”

The spokesperson said, “The initiative was made possible through the generosity and support of many individuals and organisations. Special thanks are extended to:

  • CG Insurance for generously donating 30 gift cards.
  • Lindo’s for donating 100 reusable shopping bags, ensuring every care package could be distributed with dignity and practicality.
  • Davinci Dental for donating 30 toothbrushes and dental care sets. New Heights Media for leading the marketing and promotion of the initiative.
  • Kreations Co., led by Kenika Dill, for designing and producing all 30 for 30 branded merchandise and event materials.
  • Zakina Allen of Bal Lux for creating the beautiful event décor.
  • The Ex-Artillerymen’s Association Club for generously hosting the packing event.
  • The Streak of Pink family and Streakers Studio for waiving the costs of the fundraising spin classes in support of the initiative.
  • Kenny’s Kitchen.
  • Everyone who donated food and refreshments for the volunteers.
  • Every volunteer who dedicated their time to sorting, organising, and packing the care packages.
  • Every individual, family, and business that donated essential items, made financial contributions, or helped spread the word.

“The overwhelming response to the initiative is a testament to the generosity that exists throughout Bermuda. What began as one person’s desire to celebrate a milestone by serving others has evolved into a community effort that will positively impact dozens of families across the island. As the care packages are distributed, the 30 for 30 initiative stands as a reminder that meaningful change happens when people come together with compassion, generosity, and a shared commitment to supporting one another.

“LaLique Simmons extends her heartfelt gratitude to every sponsor, donor, volunteer, business, organisation, family member, and friend who helped make the initiative an overwhelming success.”

Ms. Simmons said, “This was never just about turning 30. It was about bringing people together to make a difference. Seeing our community rally around this initiative and exceed every expectation has been the greatest gift of all. Thank you to everyone who gave, volunteered, encouraged, and believed in this vision. Together, we have shown the true meaning of community.”
