Jediah Cumbermack Reflects On Outlon Races
Motorcycle racer Jediah Cumbermack competed in round six of the 1pMobile National Junior Sportbike Championship at Oulton Park, Cheshire, at the weekend.
The Bermudian qualified twelfth and finished in the same position in race one before suffering a mechanical issue in race two.
Cumbermack, who races for Team ROKiT Rookies, said missing Friday’s free practice affected his preparation.
“I was feeling good going into the race, but I never quite felt comfortable on the bike,” he said.
“Missing free practice on Friday had a bigger impact than I expected and made it difficult to get up to speed.
“I felt that with more track time, I would have had a much better understanding of what changes were needed to the bike, which could have helped improve my confidence and overall performance.”
Reflecting on race two, which he did not finish, Cumbermack said he improved his qualifying lap time and started seventh on the grid.
“Although the improvement was encouraging, I still wasn’t quite back to the race pace I had at the start of the season,” he said.
“I made a solid start and was able to move up into sixth place early on. From there, I created a small gap to the riders behind and was closing in on fifth.
“Unfortunately, I struggled with grip throughout the race, which allowed the group behind to catch back up.
“I was then passed very aggressively into turn one and forced off the circuit onto the green, costing me valuable time.
“Fortunately, I managed to recover the gap and rejoin the back of the group.
“Just as I thought I was back in the fight for sixth, I suffered a mechanical issue heading into Druids.
“The problem forced me off the track, where I unfortunately crashed and was unable to continue.
“Despite the disappointing end to the race, I want to say a huge thank you to the team for such a warm welcome back and for all the support they gave me during my time away from racing.
“Hopefully, I’ll be at Thruxton [August 14 to 16], where I can continue building my confidence and get back in tune with the bike.”
